Fugazi? “Fake” as the Italian Mob says… It’s not just a trend in precious Gems and Rare Stones, it exists online when someone wants to search for homes to buy or wants to find how much their real estate is worth.
During the last several years some internet sites have found that they more “attractive” they appear to the searching public, the more that will give up their personal and private information.
One of the ways to look more “attractive” comes in the way of showing “higher numbers” of listings that are currently for sale in a given city or area.
The other way is to have a computer program or “special” algorithm tell you what your home is worth. (referencing home sellers)
Some couple those that are not for sale and have sold on their systems included into the counts they are showing.
For example, this morning I was searching for real estate listings in Santa Clarita. One of the top results showed 887 “active” real estate listings for sale.
I ran an actual Multiple Listing search for the same real estate listings and there are actually 703 active real estate listings currently on the market for sale.
I then ran both active and backup, there are 996 active and backup real estate listings.

The top real estate search websites, mostly, don’t pull their real estate listings from the source. They also allow their “preferred” members to upload listings that are not verified or policed. See the temptation?
When it comes to searching only rely on the Multiple Listing Service. However, shouldn’t your Realtor be searching for you?
